Backyard Baby Hexagon Quilt

OK, when I say we are excited about a fabric line, I'm not kidding. After Heather and I  talked about all the things we could make with this line  (Backyard baby) Heather went home and made this quilt, The Backyard Hexagon Quilt.

She put the Windy Day on the back. That little dog with his ears blown back is so stinkin cute.

Here it is in all its glory. Heather said it went together quick and easy. She used a free pattern from Cloud Nine Fabrics, Monster Sized Hexagon Quilt.
The original pattern had the fabrics layed out to form flowers but Heather made 2 hexagons out of 15 different fabircs.

Heather put together a few kits so you can make one too. The kit includes enought fabric (15 different prints from the backyard baby line) to make the top plus the orange binding.  You can come into The Quilt Barn to pick one up or I have put them on our web site. They are only $32.00 each.
Dont forget to pick up your backing too, Heather used 1 3/8 yard of Windy Day.

Secret Garden Quilt

Amy finished up her Secret Garden Quilt. It is so stinkin cute!! Its a decent size too.

She used a Quilts and More pattern, Summer 2011 and Secret Garden  fabrics.

Pebble quilting is always a good thing. Amy did the pebble quilting on the long arm. Looks great Amy!

And Judi is holding a beginning knitting class March 27 and 29, 1-3 PM. I signed up. I am hoping I have an undiscovered,  hidden talent for knitting and I am whipping up socks one week later. It could happen.

New Fabric, Backyard Baby

I am going to have to get a second job to afford my first job. Seriously, how awesome are these new fabrics!!
We have 15 bolts from this line by Pat Solinger, Backyard Baby.

It was hard to pick just a few from this line to show you. This one, the woodpecker in the birch tree, is a favorite.

And the tiny Ant Maze. Some ants are carrying tiny leaves.

Bugs in a Jar. I love the green. It comes in gray and white too.
I can picture these fussy cut.

And Backyard Play. The gray is so chic (it comes in other colors too). Heather and I brainstormed some ideas for this line and we got some good things in the works.
If you make something with this line I have to see it!!
You can see all the bolts here.

Urban Cowgirl Quilt

Our Urban Cowgirl quilt is all quilted up!! I love the rose buds, its like a cowgirl desert rose.
I used an Urban Cowgirl Jelly roll and Cluck Cluck Sew's All Stacked Up.

I think I need a few pillowcases or pillows to go with this quilt.
This has been such a popular line. We have sold out of a few of the bolts and now Moda is not filling reorders. So, if I want pillowcases I had better buy the fabric now.
You can see the fabrics we have here.

Zig Zag Pillow

Jenele saw a certain pillow in the book Fresh Quilting. She just had to make it. That day. Exactly the same.
She pulled fabrics and tested them against each other until she felt she had just the right combination.

She particularly liked the zig zag quilting down the solids and the baby piping.

She used Malka Dubrawsky's book, Fresh Quilting.
She was so pleased with the results that she is making a matching lap quilt.

Town House Table Topper

Lori whipped up this great table topper made with Sweetwater's Hometown. She also used one of their patterns, Town Houses. This line is going to be gone soon so we were thrilled when Sweetwater released their newest line, Reunion.
Lori is making the Reunion store sample. Can't wait to see it! No pressure Lori, but can I see it by Friday?

Quilt Barn Vintage Vibe

If you have been to The Quilt Barn then you know that Heather has a great eye for vintage.
One of my favorites is the white hutch that houses wool and embroidery items.

The wool display is pretty darn cute too. This area is about to grow and move to another section of the store.
I would like those chicken nesting boxes for my sewing room.

And one of my favorite things in the store, a green vintage sewing machine. Not sure if it works but who cares.
I have been messing around with the slideshow on our web site, The Quilt Barn, so I have been trying my hand at photography. Anyone local good at photography and want to show me how its really done (photography, that is)?
Hayden and I are researching light boxes and designing a spot to take clear bright pictures of our fabric for the website. Do you have any advice?
This is so exciting!

New Dr Suess Fabric

Its a good week for new fabric here at The Quilt Barn. We got in the new Dr Seuss line by Robert Kauffman, Celebrate Seuss. I think we got about 17 different fabrics from this line. Of course we are thinking of pillowcases and pajama pants. But the quilts we could make! The panels are already spinning ideas around.
Can you see that little black rotary phone in the right corner? Way up there? I die! I want a bunch of those and make little pouches with that on the front.

We also go in The Lorax by Dr Seuss. The movie The Lorax is coming out.  I'm not sure what the puffs are (I guess I will have to see the movie) but they are so cute. And the little mustachioed Lorax!
Its going to be a race here to come up with and make the store samples.

New Fabric- Reunion

We got the cut goods in a month ago (charm packs, etc) and now we have the yardage to go with it! Reunion by Sweetwater is in.

Check out that chevron zig zag in the middle. Love! Of course I love anything with text on it too.
Lori is making a quilt with this line and I can't wait to see it all done up.
I've also put it on the website, www.thequiltbarn.com.
If you make something with this line email a picture or a link. I want to see what can be made with this
awesome line.

Rainbow Zig Zag Quilt

There are some great spectrum, or rainbow, quilts on the various web sites (like Flickr and Pinterest). Their simplicity (but in no way simplistic) really appeals to me.
I participated in an online spectrum charm swap and have put the 5" square together in half square triangles and tried to arrange them in order form darkest to lightest. Sometimes it worked out. I had quite a few left over (like I received way more orange than any other color) so I think I am going to make a few pillows to go with this quilt.
I was assigned yellow/green as my color and sent in a half yard of each color cut into 5" squares. I got a package back with one from everyone else who participated. Such a great trade I think.
I am participating in an eye spy swap too. This time I sent in a yard cut into charms. We had to put a picture of our fabric on the swap flickr site so we could make sure there weren't any duplicates.
Have you participated in any on line swaps?

Urban Cowgirl Peek

We are all loving Urban Chiks new line, Urban Cowgirl! This quilt top was made with a jelly roll and Cluck Cluck Sew's pattern Off the Grid. It is waiting in the long arm queue. I cant wait to see it all quilted up.
This is going to be a popular line. People are talking about it and loving it too. We have already finished 4 bolts (there are 27 in all). These gone bolts have been reordered but we wont be able to reorder for much longer.
I am wondering what I should buy for my stash. Jenele already put some aside for herself before it ran out.  Smart lady.

Chemistry Valentine Runner

Lori made a table runner out of the new line from Cosmo Crickets, Chemistry.

She used the table runner pattern from the book Fresh Fabric Treats by Moda Bakeshop.
Some of you might remember Heather made this runner out of Sweetwater's Countdown to Christmas fabrics.

I am thinking my middle daughter needs a big full skirt from one of these to wear on Valentine's Day. The stripe fabric would make a great big bow at the waist.

Our last post, Amy's Puzzle Quilt, was missing the text. I have it back so pop back over and read about this great quilt.
