Rain Drop Quilt Window Display

My raindrop window is all done. It was so much fun to put together and think of things to make for my raindrop theme.

You can also see the selvege head board above my pillows
I had this quilt pattern in my head since Tula Pink's book came out. I tried to match it as close to the photo in the book.  There was lots of fabric left over so I also made the pillow case from the book.

I made the cloud pillow from Moda's paper lined fabric and vintage blue dots. The raindrop pillow is a quilter's linen. As soon as our new website is up and running (within in month!) I will make the patterns for the cloud and raindrop pillow available for free download. I can't wait to have our pdfs working.

I cut out large raindrops and created a rainfall at the end of the bed. I taped clear thread to the ceiling and the floor and taped raindrops (a piece for front and back) along the thread.

Heather used black batting. I have never used black batting before, it was kind of neat to see. The backing and top are black/grey and she thought the white batting might get pulled up a bit and show. Good call. She quilted a tight swirly pattern, like the wind and storm clouds.

I tried taking pictures last week but they all turned out poorly. Big thanks to Laura for saving me and taking pictures.

I am almost done a second project (and its one of the classes being taught) from the Adorn it book. We are so excited about this big event. If you haven't already pop on over to the Adorn It blog post.

Drip Drop Little April Showers.

So I had this song stuck in my head the whole time I was cutting out raindrops, hanging rain drops, finding flowers, and making my quilt for this window display...

Spring is by far my favorite seasons.  I just love the release of the weight of winter and the newness it brings.  The colors are great and vibrant and the air is so refreshing!

It's been rainy and gray and cloudy the last couple of days. Today it is sunny and nice though. Spring is sure on its way!

As I said last week, this is the Spin Cycle (pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew) quilt I made specifically for the Spring window.  It was a fun one to make and I'm happy with how it turned out!

Amy made this awesome, bright quilt.  She used the BQ pattern and the fabric line called Cruizin'!  It features little bicycles and sweet flowers!  It's just so happy and fun!  Below is Tara's string block quilt...which is always a favorite pattern!

Fun bicycles from the Cruizin' line!!  So fun!

Happy Spring!  What are your new Spring sewing projects!?

Isn't that red crochet edge the cutest!?  Tara is just so talented and creative, were lucky to have her on out team.

Spring Window Project

Our theme for our new spring window is raindrops.
I love to decorate the headboard and wanted to try something new. I love bunting but needed something fresh. I could decorate with bunting every time.

I ventured in to the Quilt Barn basement and brought up 2 cream shutters and stuck them in front of the headboard. new headboard, check.

Then I tied twill tape to three spots on the heard board, at each side and the middle. Laura and I worked from each end and tied long lengths of selveges to the twill tape. A few years ago I started saving my selveges. I haven't saved any for about a year and still have a milk crate full.

Laura and I now have both windows finished and will share more pictures next week. We sure have fun with our windows.

And we now have more Type typewriter fabric in. That first round went in 2 days!
Have a great weekend!

You Are What You Quilt...

So in college I had an awesome watercolor teacher that pointed out a very good point.  She said, "You are who you are, and who you are comes out in your art!"  How true that statement is!  As we students would present our pieces, she would always point out what we were wearing...and sure enough 80% of the time we were dressed with the same color pallet!

I wanted to make a quilt for our new Spring window and was having trouble seeing anything that would fit just right.  So on my day off I grabbed my mom and we headed to the Quilt Barn.  With heads together, we were able to pick some colors that were quite pleasant.  As I was cutting the fabric I needed, my mom said, "Look at your shirt!"  And would you believe it...I had picked the same colors I was wearing.  I always tell Tara that you are who you are...and this experience proves it!  So if I see you buying fabric the same as what you're wearing...I WILL tell you!!

So here's the finished product!  The quilt pattern is "Spin Cycle" by Cluck Cluck Sew and the fabric is just random pieces I pulled.  It is now in our "April showers bring May flowers" window.  (More to come about our window"  So if you're in the area come check it out!

And be sure to check out our retreat coming up with Adorn It. It is going to be a great event

Hello Quilt!

We are frantically filling out forms and taking pictures for our Quilt Show entries.  The Desert Sage Quilters of Magic Valley Quilt Show is April 13 & 14 at the Filer Fairgrounds.

Laura asked me to take a pic with my phone for her entry. This is what came out. I love this. She is a quilting angel.

I reshot the photo and got this one. Hello peeking Laura!. Also, I have to admit that both Amy and I looove this quilt and are totally copying her.
Her piecing in impecable.
My color is going to be teal. I can't wait to get started on it.
The pattern is from Denyse Schmidt's book. I think she is having figure eights quilted lengthwise.

And I messed around a bit taking more pictures with my phone. I like this one from Amy's long arm table. Its all her bobbins.

We finally got Comma by Zen Chic in. I made a quilt top with precuts and have been crazy waiting for the yardage so I can finish my borders.

And lastly, I mentioned that we would be redecorating our  windows Friday but this Saturday is prom and they are eating in the windows again this year. If you drive by Saturday evening (around 6:30) you will see 9 couples in their finest dining in our windows.

Savonnerie

We recently got in pre-cuts of Savonnerie by Sandy Klop of American Jane Patterns!  The colors in this line are so rich and saturated.  It has a very French feel! We have Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, and Charm Packs.  I think it would be perfect in the kitchen....a table topper maybe!

Pre-cuts can be purchased on our Etsy page or on our Website.  Or stop on in at our brick and mortar location!  I think the print on top and the one below are my favorite!

Raindrop Preview

I am a little behind on my March window. Yes, I still have Valentines Day set up.  Amy finished her quilt going in the big window and I am about half finished my Tula Pink Raindrop quilt. I am hoping for a Friday change over.

I took these pics with my iphone so they are a little fuzzy.  Here is one of the block sets. I used a grey quilter's linen and all of the printed fabrics are Tula Pink Prince Charming.

Lovely stack of 8 Prince Charming fabrics and the book I am using.

There are a few other things I am making for the window and I really have to get in to gear to get them done.

And a parting shot of a personal quilt I made. I used the free Granny Square quilt tutorial. I used mostly Aneela Hoey's Walk in the Woods. I used a fat eighth bundle Heather brought back from Market.
We are putting together plans for all of to go this spring. It is in May in Portland. It will be my first one.  That will be some fun blogging and tweeting that week.

Wonky Little Houses Quilt

I don't know if I showed you my Wonky Houses Quilt before. I made it last fall and just now took it down as a store display. We needed room for our newest quilt creations.

I used the pattern Wonky Little Houses and pulled some of my stashed fat quarters and scraps.
The grass is one of my favorite prints from Flea Market Fancy, green seed pods.

Amy quilted a wavy cloud on the top of the quilt and a spikier pattern on the bottom to mimic grass.

It is 70"X80" finished. Now that it has finished its time as a Quilt Barn sample it is for sale and is available in our Etsy shop

Get a Clue, Nancy Drew!

Who didn't grow up reading and love Nancy Drew?!  Nancy Drew first started her detective work in the 1930's and has been a favorite ever since!  She has timeless charm and is such a classy character!

Moda has come out with some suburb Nancy Drew fabric called Get a Clue with Nancy Drew.  It depicts the many faces of Nancy Drew and clever coordinating pieces to go with it!  Charm packs can be purchased here and fat quarter bundles here and don't hesitate to contact or convo us about yardage!

We currently do not have anything made out of this fabric, but Tara and I are thinking that this quilt pattern or this bag pattern would work great.  How fun would that be to have a book bag made out of Nancy Drew fabric to carry all your favorite books in!

Send us pictures of your projects and ideas made out of Nancy Drew and we'll feature them on our blog!
